Obama takes field trip to the Hoover Dam LAS VEGAS (CNN) – For the second day in a row, President Barack Obama took an afternoon break from preparing for Wednesday night’s debate with a field trip. Tuesday's trip was a visit to the Hoover Dam. The president’s motorcade drove 30 minutes to Boulder City, Nevada, where he stopped at the site ofa heliport overlooking the Hoover Dam and the Colorado River Bridge. "Its spectacular and I've never seen it before. I didn't realize it was so close by,” Obama told reporters along for the trip. “Marvin [Nicholson] said we were only 15 miles away and I said well we've got to go check it out.” Obama was led on a short tour by Rob Skordas, Assistant Dam Manager for History and Operational Logistics, and Janel Brawner-Potucek from the United States Bureau of Reclamation in the Department of Interior. The president was surprised to learn the dam didn’t provide water and electricity to Las Vegas. Curious about the history of the construction, he spent slightly more than an hour viewing various parts of the dam, including the transformer deck and the power house. On Monday, the president ventured out to visit a local campaign office and thank volunteers. While speaking with one worker, he commented on being at his hotel while he practiced for the debate. “Basically they're keeping me indoors all the time. It’s a drag,” he joked. “They're making me do my homework." Campaign officials attributed in part the president's pre-debate Nevada swing to a desireto speak to voters and focus on early voting in the state, which begins on October 20th. But in his stops for the past two days, interactions with voters have mostly been limited to campaign volunteers during Monday's stop, followed by officials at the Hoover Dam on Tuesday. |

This statement makes no sense. The dam is tied into the same southwestern US power grid that Vegas is, so of course some of the power from the dam makes it to Vegas. Plus, a minute or so of Google searching found that Vegas has been drawing water from Lake Mead since 1971. People in places where they might educate people like the President should get their facts straight.

Top Five Obama-Biden Tax Hikes Burying the Middle ClassOn Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden said the middle class has ‘‘been buried the last four years.’’ Taxpayers agree.
The following are the top five tax increases on the middle class signed into law by the Obama-Biden administration:
1. The Obamacare Individual Mandate Non-Compliance Tax:
Starting in 2014, anyone not buying “qualifying” health insurance – as defined by President Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services - must pay an income surtax to the IRS. The Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that six million American families will be liable for the tax, and as pointed out by the Associated Press: “Most would be in the middle class.”
In addition, 100 percent of Americans filing a tax return (140 million filers) will be forced to submit paperwork to the IRS showing they either had “qualifying” health insurance for every month of the tax year or they obtained an exemption to the mandate.
Americans liable for the surtax will pay according to the following schedule:

1% AGI/$190
1% AGI/$285

2% AGI/$325
2% AGI/$650
2% AGI/$975

2.5% AGI/$695

2. The Obamacare Tax on Union Member and Early Retiree Health Insurance Plans:
Obamacare imposes a new 40 percent excise tax on high cost or “Cadillac” health insurance plans, effective in 2018. This tax increase will most directly affect union families and early retirees, who are likely to be covered by such plans. This Obamacare tax will be levied on insurance policies whose premiums exceed $10,200 for an individual and $27,500 for a family. Middle class union members tend to be covered by such plans in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
3. The Obamacare Flexible Spending Account Tax – a.k.a. “Special Needs Kids Tax”:
The 30-35 million Americans who use a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at work to pay for their family’s basic medical needs will, starting in 2013, face a new government cap of $2,500 (currently the accounts are unlimited under federal law, though employers are allowed to set their own cap).
There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. There are several million middle class families with special needs children in the United States, and many of them use pre-tax FSA dollars to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education. This $13 billion Obamacare tax hike will severely limit the options available to these families
4. The Obamacare Medicine Cabinet Tax:
This $20 billion Obamacare tax increase prevents Americans from being able to use their pre-tax health accounts to purchase non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines.
According to a study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, 11 percent of Americans who receive health insurance from their workplace are enrolled in a Health Savings Account qualifying health insurance plan. This amounts to an estimated 16 million covered lives.
Using data from the Employee Benefit Research Institute, it is estimated that 30-35 million Americans take advantage of FSAs at work.
The Obamacare Medicine Cabinet tax prevents these tens of millions of middle class families from being able to purchase everyday medicines using these accounts. Examples of items no longer able to be purchased with pre-tax dollars without a prescription include pain relievers, cold and flu medicines, antacids, nasal sprays, and children’s vitamins.
5. The Obamacare High Medical Bills Tax:
Currently, those Americans facing high medical expenses are allowed a deduction to the extent that those expenses exceed 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI). Beginning in 2013, this $15 billion tax increase imposes a threshold of 10 percent of AGI. By limiting this deduction, Obamacare widens the net of taxable income for the sickest Americans. This tax provision will most harm near retirees and middle class families with modest incomes but high medical bills.
Block grant funding is like musical chairs—a risky game. You get a fixed number of chairs (block grant funding), regardless of how many people are in the game. Which means when times are bad more people will not be seated.
Those are facts.
When federal funding does not automatically increase in hard times, states can do only three things—
1.) Cut the number of people who are eligible,
2.) Cut the assistance each person gets or
3.) Increase state spending to buy more services…meaning the state then needs to tax more.
Which means states will cut services, or when times are good redirect their excess grant money for other uses…meaning those funds will not be available when needed, and in the end it will cost the federal government more…not less.
I would rather trust the federal government to provide the funds when needed, rather than having 50 state governments squandering block grant money when times are good and then come back repeatedly hat-in-hand for a federal bail-out when times are bad.
Look at the number of times the Federal Government has had to take a state to court for the mismanagement of federal grant monies?
FOR EXAMPLE:
Wisconsin: The Community Development HUD federal block grants which were misused. Milwaukee County had to repay the federal government for the misuse of block grant funds.
New Hampshire: Is trying to find a way to cut its state budget by $35 million due to mismanagement of Medicaid block grant funds which they owe back to the Federal Government.
New York: City of Buffalo-The Office of Housing and Urban Development defies anyone to grasp exactly what is happening to block grants that disappear down Buffalo's black hole:
Detroit: Double billed the Michigan Human Services Department for $3 million or more, of block grant federal funds.
Block grants, only opens the door for more greed and fraud…instead of less hogs at the trough the problem is compounded by 50 states worth of State hogs having access. It will be another mismanaged pork laden feeding frenzy.
Why would states be interested? For one quick cash, as they face the worst fiscal crises in two generations brought on by deregulations of safety nets and unwarranted federal tax cuts, many state leaders such as governors who will be long out of office, and who might be tempted to take the money now and let someone else worry about the future later.
Funding for the proposed changes in Medicaid, for example, would be front-loaded, giving states more money in the first years, but would reduce funding for health care coverage in the later years. Guess who suffers when that happens?

States in the past have been worse at shepherding taxpayer funds from the federal government than the federal government.
Once block grants free the federal government from its obligations to administer, set standards, and fund social programs, there’s one thing you can count on—fewer chairs and more families cut out of the game. But this is no game…since it will result in . More hunger, more homelessness, more inequality, and more destitute citizens.
What is a block grant and why is it a bad idea? A block grant is simply a lump sum grant of money Congress sends to states to use for a specific purpose. RESULTS volunteers are quite familiar with block grants because of work with the Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG), which is a pool of money Congress allocates to the states each year designated for child care assistance. While block grants are appropriate in some cases, when it comes to low-income programs like SNAP and Medicaid, they could be disastrous.
Ironically, one of the criticisms of SNAP by House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (D-WI-1) is that its costs have skyrocketed. That's exactly what is supposed to happen in a bad economy. More people lose jobs, their incomes go down, and so they turn to public assistance for help. Because of this, enrollment for safety net programs increases as do the costs of covering more people. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that SNAP kept 4.4 million people out of poverty in 2010. What Chairman Ryan seems to ignore is that, when the economy fully recovers and people's income rises, they no longer need public services and costs once again go down.

SO far this morning the talking heads have given us "Romney acted like an attack dog, who wants an attack dog for president". Hey libs, we need an attack dog to attack the problems Obama (and Bush) have caused over the past 12 years.
We also hear that Romney's "budget numbers do not make sense". He libs, Obama's budget got zero votes – do you think that was better? How about NO BUDGET FOR OUR COUNTRY FOR YEARS UNDER THIS ADMINISTRATION?
Another thing we hear is "Romney lied". Hey libs, they both lied, but Romney was sharp enough to call Obama on his lies. Obama was clueless and didn't call Romney out on anything.

Just watching Obama talking this morning in Denver. Once again he is bashing Romney. Obama spends 250 million creating an image of Romney. Last night the American people saw the lie Obama has been telling and the real Romney. We also saw the real Obama, as Sununu called him "a bumbler".
Many of the libs are still spewing the party line lies Obama has fooled his blind followers with. Axlerod says Obama was satisfied with his performance. What a bunch of clowns. So much for Obama being brilliant. We all saw what happened when the teleprompter was not there.
