POTUS's schedule for Wednesday, October 10, 2012

President Obama takes a little time off the campaign trail and spends the day at the White House on Wednesday. The only things on his public schedule are his usual presidential daily briefing and an afternoon meeting with Secretary Clinton. Perhaps in between, he could take some time to start preparing for the next debate but that is purely speculation. Meanwhile, we'll have the first briefing in well over a week today when Jay Carney briefs reporters at 12:30p.

The guidance released last night by the White House:

10:00AM Pool Call Time

10:45AM THE PRESIDENT receives the Presidential Daily Briefing

Oval Office (Closed Press)

2:00PM THE PRESIDENT meets with Secretary of State Clinton

Oval Office  (Closed Press)

Briefing Schedule

12:30PM Press Briefing by Press Secretary Jay Carney

He has to meet with Hillary to get the lies about Libya straight, then Carney has to try to sell to the press, most of which are lefties anyways.

Go drink some more RED BULL kool-aid. He needs to clean up the mess that the Republicans left us.

After leaving the economy in a mess and two wars plus trillions in tax give aways to the super wealthy, the Republicans want the keys to the white house.

Four years ago, President Obama said that if you don't have a record to run on, 'you make a big election about small things.' With 23 million people struggling for work, incomes falling, and gas prices soaring, Americans deserve more from their president," spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said

He has done more for the American people in 3.5 years than George Bush did in 8 years.

Affordable Care Act – pre-existing conditions cannot be denied, students can stay on parents health coverage upto 26
Lillyledbetter Act – equal pay for work of equal value for women
4.6 million jobs – more than George Bush created in 8 years
Save GM and Chrysler and saved us from another great depression
Cut taxes 33 times to SMALL businesses (not the small businesses of Donald Trump)

There is more if you like...

        Where to begin?
Preexitsting conditions. Yes I think most of us agree that this is a positive part of the bill. It is maybe covered in 5 of the 2200 pages in the bill. It makes you wonder, what about the bill haven't we been told.

Lilyledbetter act. This bill simply duplicates policy already in place. Despite your belief in equal rights for women, something I agree with, women have been more effected by unemployment than men.

4.6 M jobs. That is if you use 2010 as the beginning of the president's term. Overall, there was still a job loss.

Save GM and Chrysler. Maybe or maybe not true. There were other methods where these two companies could have been saved.

Save from Depression. Many economist believed that the economy had already hit bottom and was on its way back up when the president took office. The recession perhaps ended as soon as 3 months into his term. Now we are facing serious deficit that could cause a far worse recession than previously.

Cut taxes to small businesses. Wait until the new taxes kick in next year. The healthcare bill and other things will also need to be paid for. You are aware that if tax cuts expire it will affect about 900,000 small businesses.

According to Forbes, world economists fear the decline of the US economy. We were once ranked first and are now seventh.

Caramon maybe the economy had hit bottom ...but no it wasn't getting back upanytime soon because too much damage to our total infrastructure during 8 years of bleeding the country dry to fight 2 wars, and not investing in roadds, bridges, schools and education and retraining for a last century workforce. .

"The Act amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 stating that the 180-day statute of limitations for filing an equal-pay lawsuit regarding pay discrimination resets with each new paycheck affected by that discriminatory action."

"The law directly addressed Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., 550 U.S. 618 (2007), a U.S. Supreme Court decision that the statute of limitations for presenting an equal-pay lawsuit begins on the date that the employer makes the initial discriminatory wage decision, not at the date of the most recent paycheck."

        October 10, 2012 at 1:00 pm |
      • Caramon

Jean, according the the Institute of International Economics, the primary cause of the recession was the housing bubble. Bush may have contributed with the two wars. But it does not appear to be the primary cause. As far as bleeding the country dry, it does not change the fact that federal revenue peaked in 2007 and the annual deficit was relatively small compared to now. How does 1300 billion in annual deficits not bleed the country dry?

According to the Social Security Life Tables Romney/Ryan plan would increase the cost of Medicare by $8,000 for a 70 year old.
"We estimate that a current 70 year old will pay nearly $8,000 more for Medicare in retirement as a result of the Romney-Ryan plan. A current 65 year old will pay over $11,000 more for Medicare in retirement. And a current 55 year old will pay over $18,000 more for Medicare in retirement."

"ncreased costs to all seniors who qualify for Medicare after 2022
Because the Romney-Ryan voucher would grow more slowly than health care costs, seniors would become responsible for a greater share of the premium over time. We find that the Romney-Ryan plan’s cost-shifting effect alone would raise the average health care bill:
For seniors reaching age 65 in 2023 by $32,900
For seniors reaching age 66 in 2030 by $73,600
For seniors reaching age 67 in 2040 by $139,100
For seniors reaching age 67 in 2050 by $225,200"

Additional costs from private plans cherry picking healthier patients
The impact of the Romney-Ryan plan would be even greater for seniors who want to remain in traditional Medicare. Over time, the costs associated with enrolling in traditional Medicare under the Romney-Ryan voucher system are likely to rise, potentially quite dramatically. The figures above reflect costs for the average Medicare patient, whether they are enrolled in traditional Medicare or a private plan. But the traditional Medicare program is likely to attract a disproportionate share of Medicare patients with the greatest health needs because these patients are most dependent on the broad choice of providers available in traditional Medicare."

Under the Romney-Ryan plan, all Americans would be forced to spend substantially more money on health care during their retirements—from tens of thousands of dollars for current seniors to hundreds of thousands of dollars more for future seniors. Those who are unable to afford these significantly increased health care costs would be forced to reduce other retirement spending or forgo necessary care.
There is no question that the long-term costs of medical care need to be addressed. But forcing seniors to shoulder the entire burden of rising health care costs is not the solution. A better, more just solution is to address the underlying causes of high health care costs, reducing costs overall, and enabling everyone to pay less without compromising access. The Affordable Care Act takes many steps in this direction, but as we have outlined elsewhere, there is more to be done to make the system more efficient overall and create better value for both individuals as well as the government."

Typical Lyn L – just ignore what is posted and bash Romney.
You libs aren't getting it. People are seeing right through you and the thinks you make up.
Obama lies to ALL OF US – and you libs say Romney lies.
Obama hires TAX CHEATS INTO KEY POSITONS and you libs talk about Romney and not paying taxes.
Romney talks about cutting the budget BECAUSE WE ARE BROKE and Obama tries to make jokes about it. Well, the economy and 23 million out of work is no joke, other than to Obama and you blind followers who think Obama is doing a good job and can do no wrong.
Just like the excuses of why ROmney made a fool out of Obama during the debate – it was the altitude? It was that Obama tried to be too polite? It was the fact that "something happened" just before the debate to distract Obama? It was because Romney lied?, Obama had an "off day"? The deck was stacked against Obama because he was in the lead before the debate? Because Obama told the truth and ROmney lied? Obama didn't want to look "snide"? Winning is "oo aggressive"? The eyes and ears of the people watching had their "eyes and ears deceive them"?
One thing Obama has done well since before he was elected is make excuses. All these just from the debate. How about 20% of the libs thought Obama actually won?
As I always say – you libs are good for a good laugh once and a while.

The last several times we have elected a person with so-called "business experience" they have been dismal failures....Herbert Hoover, Warren G. Harding, George W. Bush....no thanks!
First and foremost the Federal government is not a business....it is a non-profit service provider which serves the American people. Even the District of Columbia is held jointly by all the American people as a district, and although people living in the district do have some say in local city government, they cannot vote for a member of congress.
If you want someone who knows how a non-profit service provider operates you hire someone who has the experience of making it work at a local level to benefit people. Then you hire someone with the experience as a community organizer, or one who has experience working for large non-profit organizations.

I agree, the US is not a business, it's a country.

Jean, you say that the Federal government is a non-profit service provider? Liberals are greedy, only see the government for what it can give to you, you, you. The government should protect our inherent and inalienable rights, not give free cheese.

Gov. Romney has the experience of community organizer and working for a large non-profit organization.
Here are a few of his experiences:

        1) In the late 60s he was co-president of a mission in France. Overseeing the work of 175 people.

        2) In the 80s he presided over the Boston Stake, which included more than a dozen wards in eastern Massachusetts with almost 4,000 church members. He visited the sick, and counseled burdened church members.

        3) Gov. Romney was president and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics.87 percent of Utahns approved of his performance. Harvard's Business School taught a case study based around his actions.

        4) Gov. Romney was Governor of Massachusetts.

        Compare that to Obama.
Obama wrote in his memoir, Dreams from My Father “When classmates in college asked me just what it was that a community organizer did, I couldn’t answer them directly. Instead, I’d pronounce on the need for change. Change in the White House, where Reagan and his minions were carrying on their dirty deeds." Sounds like even Obama did not know what he did or why.

He asks himself, how long “before you started sounding like a politician?”

What type of morally bankrupt person has employees build a stage so he can fire them, and close the plant they work in? Who with a heart and an ounce of brains chains the family pet to the roof of a vehicle to take on vacation? Why would a reasonable person who has a draft deferment be so lacking in compassion that he protests FOR others to go die in a war he won't fight? Who bullies a class mate and cuts his hair? Does he really think it right that Beallsville, Ohio miners had to “mandatorily” attend one of his campaign speeches without pay, or lose their jobs?

Now, he not only wants to fire Big Bird, but also cut great programming like Masterpiece Theater. And wants his war profiteers to keep on pumping out those tanks the military doesn’t want any more of.

FIRST: It would boost unemployment because it slashes public spending next year and the year after, when the economy is still likely to need a boost, not a fiscal drag. It would be the same austerity trap now throwing Europe into recession. According to the Economic Policy Institute, Ryan’s plan would mean 1.3 million fewer jobs next year than otherwise, and 2.8 million fewer the year after.

SECOND: Ryan would take from lower-income Americans and give to the rich – who already have the biggest share of America’s total income and wealth in almost a century. His plan would raise taxes on families earning between 30 and 40 thousand dollars by almost $500 a year, and slash programs like Medicare, food stamps, and children’s health What would Ryan do with these savings? Reduce taxes on millionaires by an average of almost $500,000 a year.

THIRD: Ryan wants to turn Medicare into vouchers that won’t keep up with the rising costs of health care – thereby shifting the burden onto seniors. By contrast, Obama’s Affordable Care Act saves money on Medicare by reducing payments to medical providers like hospitals and drug companies.

FOURTH: He wants to add money to defense while cutting spending on education, infrastructure, and basic research and development. America already spends more on defense than the next five biggest military spenders put together. Our future productivity depends on the public investments Ryan wants to cut.

FIFTH AND Finally, Ryan’s budget doesn’t even reduce the federal budget deficit – not for decades. Remember: He’s adding to military spending, giving huge additional tax cuts to the very rich, and stifling economic growth by cutting spending too early. The Center for Budget and Policy Priorities estimates Ryan’s Roadmap would push public debt to over 175 percent of GDP by 2050.

So there you have it. The Ryan – Ryan-ROMNEY – economic plan.

And the five reasons why it would be a disaster for America".

The truth of the matter and a fact is that the Bush Administration ruined the economy, they never created jobs, caused the resession, never controlled the banks, started 2 wars (1 unncessary – 9/11 necessary) and just did not do anything to help America. Further, if you do not know this by now, it will take more than 4 years to bring back the economy to what is was. I am shocked how people think that the economy will be normal within four years. Try 10 years at least. I am sorry but Romney is not the right guy to be POTUS. He scares me and makes me wonder to much oh his flip flopping everything, but who cares he is white so that should be good enough for some people.

google Romney's medicare plan. It is what he says it is. obamma is cutting over $700,000,000.00 from medicare, provider payments, federal boards, more IRS agents...and on and on and on. The facts are all in the media and there is very very few on the left or right who support obamacare..it is a mess just like everything else obama has touched. on't listen to the lies.

Romney has extensive experience with health care and Ryan is a budget genus...obama's resume is non-existent and he refuses to work with those who know what they are doing...including Bowels and Simpson. Obama is a fraud and an empty shirt.

Which story will Obama use about Libya tomorrow? They've already lied twice about it. This won't help him at all going into the foreign policy debate, surely he knew that when they made up that first story about the video. We now know that the ambassador and his staff asked for additional security several times and were told to pound sand by Hillary and Lord Obama. Obama should be tried for treason or at least neglect.

obama can't tell the difference between the truth and a lie...he is a very sick man raised by two alcoholic commuinist grandparents and abandonded by his crqzy mother and muslim alcoholic father. He is a nut case...God help him and God help us!

I see there are still some who think obama is a viable candidate for the Presidency of The United States of America. Very hard to believe, but he has spent 4 years of campaigning and spending money where he believes it will get him votes. Barry Obama has dislayed no courage or moral compass. To some this works for them, those who could care less what they leave for their children and grandchildren...and the very ignorant and ill informed. We need leadedrship not empty speak and salesmanship...a leader who actually has a resume' suitable for the job. The obama experiement is over!
