Debate night in America

All eyes will be on President Obama tomorrow night at 9:00p to see if the second presidential debate will go better than the first for the president. We’ll see if this round of debate prep in Williamsburg is more effective when he faces off with Mitt Romney at the debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

He leaves Williamsburg just before lunch time and spends the afternoon with nothing on his schedule before the debate. The campaign was still tight-lipped on his preparations in Williamsburg when they spoke with reporters off-camera on Monday afternoon but they say we can expect to see a different Obama in tomorrow night’s town hall debate. “You should expect that he’s going to be firm, but respectful in correcting the record in the times we expect Mitt Romney will hide from and distort his own policies. He’s energized and I expect he’ll also be making a passionate case. But the audience is the people in the room, but also the people at home, and certainly he takes that into account in how he’s preparing and looking ahead to tomorrow,” said Jen Psaki, campaign spokeswoman.

Psaki said he’s watched the video from the first debate and is looking at what he could do better. She also points out that he’s his own harshest critic.

First Lady Michelle Obama will also attend the New York debate.

The Vice President takes a break from the campaign trail to attend the funeral of his friend Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania. He returns to the trail on Wednesday.

debats are not nearly as important as the substance. Dispit fact checkers the public still keeps buying the republican lies. Are republicans deaf or stupid?? It has been shown that the middle and lower class grow more under a democratic presidency but the repub keep buying the kool aid. Thats why education is so important in this country. So we don't have to look at lawn signs that say vote for real americans mitt and eddy boy. Raceism is alive and well in America. Vote all repubs out.

Republicans left this country in a mess. Started two wars and gave away trillions in tax dollars to the super wealthy. Now they blame Obama for not cleaning it up fast enough.

        Stop the RED BULL.

The Democrat party wants to put everyone in a social cubbyhole. The do not see you as a person only as white or black, rich or poor, woman or man, young or old. By hiding behind the promises of equality they discriminate against anyone for any reason. That is any reason that suits THEIR needs.

The Democrats could be described as modern slave holders. They want to be in-charge of your money, where you live, how you and your kids are educated. They do not trust you to make your own decisions., As Joe Biden said "keep y'all in chains."

Are we in trouble or what?
      Tom Selkis' (Latham Ford) Facebook..........
True story yesterday at the dealership.....

"I'll try to make this as short and to the point as I can. One of my
salesmen here had a woman in his office yesterday wanting to lease a brand new Focus. As he was reviewing her credit app with her he noticed she was on social security disability. He said to her you don't look like you're disabled and unable to work. She said "well I'm really not, I could work if I wanted to but I make more now then I did when I was working and got hurt" (non-disabling injury). She said the gov't sends her $1500.00 a month in 1 check; she gets $700.00 a month on an EBTcard (food stamps), and $800.00 a month for rent. Oh yeah and 250 mins
free on her phone. That is just south of $3500.00 a month. When she was working she was taking home about $330.00 per week. Do the math and then ask yourself: "why the hell should she go back to work?" If you multiply that by millions of people you start to realize the scope of the problem we face as a country. Once the socialists have 51% of the population in that same scenerio we are finished........ and we are real, real close. The question is: when do we cross that threshold if we haven't already?
She didn't lease the Focus here because the dealer down the road beat our deal by $10.00month. Glad to know she is so frugal with her hard earned money!

Don't blame Obama for a program that started under FRD. Obama does not review disability claims, and they are not his policy. SSI disability has been around for over 70 years. Is the program abused, without a doubt. Does that mean we get rid of it, no. It is there for people that are disabled and unable to work. Those that abuse the system should be punished. blaming Obama is rediculous. Why not question Romney about his constant changing on issues, depending on who he speaks to and where he is running for office. What about tax evasion and offshore accounts, these are crimes I never hear the GOP supporters question. Obama is a moderate democrat, forbes (a conservative publication) said he is the thriftiest spending president since Eisenhower. He has added less to the debt percentage wise than Reagan and both Pappa and George Bush. The bottom line is this; if you are wealthy you should vote Romney, if you are middle class or poor, you should vote Obama. Those that vote Romney that are poor or middle class are simply mislead fools, that are manipulated by the GOP and their rhetoric.

Every legislative provision, act, etc., gets exploited. If that is the only premise to justify dissolving some of the existing programs, there would be no programs. Extreme conservatism and liberlaism is what is wrong with this country at the moment. So, to be oblivious to key points on both sides just to take up a single flawed position on either just to be full of "stuff."

If you any evidence of tax evasion, please produce it. There are no laws against offshore accounts. If there were then Harry Reid would be just as guilty as well as other members of Congress both Republican and Democratic. However, there are laws against making false allegations.

Obama's EPA is holding back regulations, until after election that 'spell doom' for jobs, economy
The14-page report cites pending regulations on a wide range of environmental-economic issues including those on power plant emissions and hydraulic fracturing.
The report concluded that pending overall regulations on greenhouse gases if enacted would cost $300 billion to $400 billion annual and significantly increase the price of gasoline and home heating.

You are right, Joe. The uninformed will buy the Mitt Romney that speaks MODERATE on national TV and walks away from what he is in RED STATES and BATTLEGROUND STATES. He will say anything whether it's true or not. Fact-checkers correct his lies, but the uninformed do not bother to read what fact-checkers say. So we might elect a liar and then pay the consequences. The truth is Mittens is for the T-Party agenda which is so far right they will take this country back to the 50s on civil rights and women's rights. This election is about GREED. We have gone from a COUNTRY UNDER GOD to A OUNTRY UNDER GREED!

Fact checkers tend to correct both candidates. If you believe it is only Mitt Romney who was corrected, then you are only reading half of what is written. And you are making the common misconception that only wealthy people are greedy. Greed is essentially wanting something that you have not earned. Do you honestly believe there is no one who wants something for nothing?

By the way, it was the Republicans who passed legislation of civil rights in the 1960s.

Obama never takes responsibility for his actions ... instead, he constatntly blames others ... he throws others under the bus ... has others take the blame for him ... uses Executive Privilege ... blames syntax ... acts indignant ... avoids the issue ... refuses to answer ... has the biased mainstream media, or his devout obama stooges, circle the wagons, or cover his tracks .... or he just resorts to outright lying ... anything to avoid taking responsibility. It's time to replace this poor excuse for a President, with a man of integrity, honesty, and character ... someone with the actual experience and know how to repair all of the damage Obama has caused over the past 4 years ... Apparently you only read part of Fact check and missed the part where statements from the President were also considered false. The lower class has grown under the current Democratic administration. Poverty levels have peaked in the last four years particularly for blacks and hispanics. In addition, average household income has decreased. How exactly does this mean Republicans are racist?

    October 16, 2012 at 12:59 pm |
    • Rob Rowen

Pappy, we are broke. The reason is due to the policy of deficit spending under Reagan, and both Bush;s. Read forbes, a conservative publication, they have stated Obama is the thriftiest spending president since Eisenhower. Blaming Obama for the debit is a show of ignorance, deficit spending has been going on for decades. Obama had to spend some money to keep the country from going over the cliff during the economic crisis. Romney is beholden to the wealthy, they are paying for his campaign, don't think for a minute you can trust a man that changes his mind about policy issues more than a baby changing diapers. In all honesty, do you trust anyone to make tax policy that refuses to be honest about his own tax history? The power brokers pulling romney's strings are borderline Fascist, they want power, and two very distinct classes of citizens, them and the rest of us. Working class people should understand the danger that these wealthy people and their politicians represent to us. They want to take away the rights of labor to bargain, they are anti union, etc.. If you are an old timer, these were the things that made our generation great and prosporus. or me it comes down to the candidate that is for the working man, not for the man we work for.

It would be helpful to all of us if the libs that keep saying bad things about Romney and Ryan could list at least one fact of why they think these two are bad for America. The first post here talks about repub lies and how the repubs are stupid. But, the person did not list one thing of substance about the lies.
Joe, are you really David Axelrod? Your post seems like much of what he says, again, with nothing to back it up. Joe, the Dems have been running the inner cities for quite some time. Look what they have done.
Lawn Signs? A person in MA was just arrested for tearing down a Brown (repub) sign. The person who hung the sign put a small camera next to it then posted the guys picture online as he was tearing down the sign. They caught him red handed.

Here's two reasons: 1. Romney has made his money outsourcing jobs–that is, he either buys companies then closes them down leaving many men and women unemployed in our country, or he moves the company overseas paying very low wages. He is complaining about the number of jobs Obama has failed to create, but will not take responsibility for the number of jobs he has taken from citizens in this country. 2. Ryan has spent most of his time in office submitting bills to control the reproductive rights and healthcare needs of women. Since he cannot give birth, having no uterus, ovaries, breasts, etc., his stance is very upsetting to women. Women vote, pay taxes and serve this country, too.

We are leaving in 2014, period, and in the process, we're going to be saving over the next 10 years another $800 billion," Biden said. "We've been in this war for over a decade. The primary objective is almost completed. Now all we're doing is putting the Kabul government in a position to be able to maintain their own security. It's their responsibility, not America's."

Marc Grossman, the State Department's special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, explained today that's not the whole story.

Will somebody please ask Mitt Romney this question: If he doesn't win this time will he finally quit running for president of the country? I'd like to know because the Republicans won't run him again but he could switch parties to go one more time for the Oval office; he's changed his positions before, he evolves, maybe a defeat will make him turn to a Democrat or Independant or liberterian? Ask him, please, somebody!!!

The two questions are: Is America better off to day than we were when obama took office? Domestically, how is employment, fuel prices, food prices, and health care prices. Foreign policy, how is our relationships with our trade partners and competition. Relations with Russia, China, North Korea. Did we defeat our enemies in the middle east, is America safer? NO on both questions..In fact we cannot see the end of the tunnel on jobs and inflation and the middle east is in flames. We need real more snake oil salesman.

  12. Rob Rowen

Kool-aid, is that the GOP answer to everythhng they are unable to see past. The plain truth is that Romney/Ryan ticket will finish the job of destroying the middle class, one that began due to decades of GOP policies that are anti-labor and pro-business. Just look around the country and you can see Republican after Republican attacking the rights of labor when it comes to collective bargaining. Now the GOP has in place a presidential candidate beholden to the power brokers of the radical right, and a VP candidate who is a true radical believer. After you sift through all of their rhetoric and the lies and distorted facts, their agenda borders on Fascism. Americans are so uneducated politically, that they vote based on religious beliefs or gun issues, and nothing else. While these rights are important, thry do not constitute a viable reason to vote against ones own self interest. Romney and Ryan are against medicare, social security, and all other social programs. They pretend to care, only to pander to those voters that are dependent on these programs. The future they truly believe in is one that continues to enrich the wealthy and elite, even at the expense of normal citizens. Do not think for a minute that the 47% comments or the 33% taker comments are slips of the tounge. These men look down the face at over half of our population. They can lie all they want, their policies do not stand up to simple mathmatics. With such an uneducated and unimformed population I guess it does not matter. Every poor or middle class person voting for Romney is voting to destroy their future and the future of their offspring.

Did any other viewers notice how Candy stopped or cut the President off from responding at times when Governor Romney had lied in his responses? Was she trying to help Romney win the debate? Twice the President attempted to make a response, but Candy told him he would have an opportunity to do so at the end of the debate. These were times, if allowed the chance, I believe the President's responses would have knocked Mitt's socks off. Worse, at the end President Obama did not get to comment at all. Very disappointing. If Romney was given a question first, Obama was entitled to respond before Candy moved on to another question.

after the debate CNN Tom Foreman conducts the reality check series. in his process of explaining the candidates plans on cutting the deficit. he addresses Gov Romney as such, but he addresses the president as Barack Obama. there seems to be a blatant lack of respect for the man who is clearly the POTUS. i believe an apology is in order from MR. Foreman.

Agreed. The disrespect that Republicans have shown towards the President is appauling.

How about Tagg Romney wanted to take a swipe at the President. Threatening a President, isn't this a criminal offence.

Candy handled the debate with complete un-bias professionalism.
And CNN's post-debate coverage was fantastic! Romney doesn't stand a chance!!

Well obama looked the American people straight in the eye and lied and continued his horrible distorted attack on Mitt Romney's character. Why would any good American vote for such a monster? obama tried to cut of Romney and ask crowley to stop him when he addressed obama's character assassination attacks...what a snake.

The choice is very clear...a chicago political gangster or a good and moral man with a resume' open to the world of success and giving and job creation. A man of God or a man of who knows what...but certainly not of God.

You got you facts wrong, you don't even know what you are talking about, the entire now knows Romney is the Liar here. He tells different groups of people what they what to hear, but deep down he hates the middle class and the poor people. Remember the % 47 remark when he was with his fellow rich guys?. This guys hates you, wake up, unless you are a rich guy too.

Mitt was clearly the liar here. Americans are not stupid. He said I am for coal when he stood in front of a coal plant and said that it kills people and then shut it down. What a flip-flopping liar this man is. He is no Christian but a cult member.

Candy Crowley is disgrace and a through and through liberal. She should admit it. She's a fake journalist.
Even in two against one, Mitt still demonstrated he is a genuine leader and has the facts.
Mitt's opponent is an actor, and imposter. How's the country doing, not so well economically.

CNN allows comments to be posted, unlike the unbiased Faux News Network.

This is the reason why so many Republicans are on here spewing their RED BULL

CNN, where are the new second debate post polls? The president must have gotten a big bounce from his strong and honest performance together with Romney women problems. Polls must be looking good for Obama now. Post them for people to see. And alos CNN, why do you guys poll more republicans than democracts? this makes your polls wrong when you do this.

"Just how badly did CNN's Candy Crowley destroy her first (and hopefully last) attempt as a presidential debate moderator? More than 65 million people saw that she is to debate moderation as CNN is to "news."

"Barack Obama made a fatal mistake when he lied, claiming he'd labeled the Libya attack as an act of terrorism. The look on Romney's face said it all: Mr. President, here comes checkmate."

"Then Crowley leapt to Obama's defense, declared a lie a truth, changed the subject, and Obama was free."

We all saw what happened. Romney being a pathological BULLY walked over to Candy and was pressing the issue.

Candy had recently worked on this issue and knew what was said in the Rose Garden the day after the attack.

Romney lied and got caught with his pants down, so get over it. Let's move this country forward....

    Dear President Barack Obama,

All I ask is that you just keep it real for the people one time for before you leave office. I believe there are still unsolved injustices in our society and you know that you have the power to make a change. I understand you can't do it all but if the the minority community can just receive an increase in education in real estate, business and a stronger outreach in high level occupational skills such as lawyers, accountants, doctors and scientist we probably can begin making the change on our own and so many people would not have to rely on the benefits of the government.

Thanks and I appreciate your great leadership!

The method Republicans have used to block all jobs legislation in the past two years is the same. A jobs bill comes up, it is filled with positive things for the economy, Republicans filibuster debate, this shields them from having to make floor speeches on why they don't want tax breaks for small businesses... etc.
Why? Well, if the economy recovers too strongly before an election, Republicans will lose power. If jobs numbers look too good, people will want to keep the same party. By Republicans blocking all jobs legislation and keeping jobs numbers from improving they believe this is their ticket to power.
In other words, if you and other Americans suffer just long enough it will pay off for Republicans.
They sacrifice the citizens' jobs with the hopes that they will create more Republican jobs in Congress.

Crowley was Romney's secret weapon in the second debate. She helped focus the voters' attention on Obama's failed handling of Mid-East foreign policy. With her help Obama managed to turn one flip-flop into two flip-flops. Romney only pointed out that Obama switched his statements about the cause of the Benghazi attack a week after the attack occurred. Crowley helped trip up Obama into saying that he also changed his statement about the cause of the attack on the day that it occurred. Thanks, Candy!
