Obama: Hurricane Sandy will affect millions

(CNN) – Hurricane Sandy is a powerful storm that will affect millions of people, U.S. President Barack Obama said Monday.

"We are certain that this is going to be a slow-moving process through a wide swath of the country, and millions of people are going to affected," Obama said, speaking to reporters from the White House after a Situation Room briefing on the storm.

Obama called on Americans to heed local storm evacuation orders. Anyone who doesn't follow evacuation orders, he said, is "putting first responders in danger."

You have got to be kidding me,

So he stops campaigning to go to the White House to Monitor a storm....

But goes to Vegas when Americans have died over seas and embassies are still on fire. Yea, this has nothing to do with votes and image. Yes he should monitor the storm, but, shouldn't he have done both?

    What a disgrace!

    I am confused,

He holds a detailed press conference on a storm, but couldn't hold a conference on Benghazi? And no the rose garden and the view were not actually informative.

BTW it is only at Category 1 which is nothing, but of course the media needs something to report and even put their Business correspondent out in the rain for a funny shot, hope you're having fun Velshi...

The storm is so bad its preventing the other 45 states from reporting job numbers on time, Maybe the east coast should email their numbers to Cali so they can prepare them if its sooo bad. Its not like they didnt know it was coming.

    Hmmm sounds fishy to me.

the president is doing excactly what a president is suppose to do in times of crisis. Thats lead. Better him at the helm than when the last president was in office. Mittens mean while is out campaigning and trying to undermine the president. Telling his usual lies and distortions. Everyone that can vote needs to and the people in harms way need to stay safe. We need a steady hand to get us back on tract when this is over and it won;t be mittens.

hahaaha...there is a big difference between leading and LOOKING like you lead. obama's reaction to this storm illustrates his entire presidency(if you can call it that)...campaign campaign campaign...self promotion and NO LEADERSHIP...and the results speak for themselves.

Your blind devotion to 'Dear Leader' ... your Fuhrer, is touching ... but it's time for you to leave the Obama cult. Obama was given a chance ... and, in the past 4 years, he has nearly destroyed America. NOW, it's time for Barack and Michelle to abdicate their throne, so Mitt Romney can begin repairing the excessive damage caused by Obama's terrible policies. Good bye Barack, Michelle, Nancy, Harry, Jarret, and Axelrod, and all the unelected czars ... and, GOOD RIDDANCE TO YOU ALL ... I'm sure you all will find another way to pick the pockets of hard working Americans !!!

Howard – this shows your mentality – Bill Clinton handed the dumbest president we've ever had , a surplus. THEN, The dumbest president we've ever had handed Obama trillions in debt – along with losing 800K Jobs a month. Then asks for a Bailout, before Obama took office. The stock market was in a freefall – down to 5,000 and falling. This is going to take 8 or more YEARS of Democratic principles to get out of this mess.

I see that CNN is reporting the photo op of Obama visiting the Red Cross, in response to Hurricane Sandy. Why doesn't Obama visit the Red Cross in Benghazi ??? ... oh, that's right, the Red Cross in Benghazi, along with the British Embassy, exhibited leadership, by recalling their personnel, before they could get murdered.

"Better him at the helm than when the last president"?

President Bush declared a state of emergency in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi on Saturday, the 27th, two days before hurricane Katrina made landfall.

Obama waited until Sandy made land fall. Obama is not at the helm, he is asleep, like the first debate. Zzzzzzzzzz, what, what , Its Bush's fault, zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Obama's Fast and Furious disaster ... and Benghazi disaster ... has taken the lives of 6 brave Americans ... and, over 200 innocent Mexicans ... and, both Obama disasters were lied about, and covered up ... which are the greater disasters ??? ... Thank god we have a real leader in charge, and, if you think Gov Christie isn't grateful to have federal help, which contradicts the Whole Romney thing, you better believe he's grateful now.
And, any of you smart mouth people who want to make some demeaning comments, until you've been in the middle of a crisis like this, you know not what your speaking of. Obama is there 100% on this, Christies knows it, and gets it.

I love how Romney is giving second hand items to the Red cross instead of donating money, specifically what the Red Cross says not to do. It takes more time and effort to sort and clean all the items than it does to buy new ones and get them where they are needed.

This isn't political. This is what presidents do I tragedies. This does not make him a stellar president. The last tragedy this country has Obama went to Vegas. Romney did cancel his campaign events. However this is a natural disaster, not a political talking point.

CNN and the rest of the main stream media will crow at how great this President is. Right now there are over a thousand people who are on their roofs in NJ waiting to be rescued. Do you think he will get the same treatment W got when many more thousands were waiting to be rescued in New Orleans? No way–in fact there will not be any pictures and probably zero reporting. CNN has to make sure their candidate is elected!

Romney is an elitist Corporate raider. He didn't build anything, he gambled with the companies financial well being and if you believe for one moment that he cares about the Middle class, you will be sorely disappointed. I pray each and every day that people will open their eyes and see that this man changes his views as often as he changes his underwear.

You need to do some reading. You're obama-addicted. You have been ravaged by over five years of brain washing, hateful, twisting, and character assassination speak... You are either ignorant, racist, or just insane to believe what you have written. Please, you wake up.

Please pay attention to this: Bain, was originally a venture capital firm who among other investments provided the capital for the creation of Staples who grew quickly to a business employing 87,000 people...this is just ONE of their successful investments. So, it seems he can create jobs. Do a little study before you run the typical obama character assassination/lies tactic....most informed voter know what is going on...the lies just don't hold up over the long haul.

      October 30, 2012 at 4:21 pm |
      • jerry

oh, Bain did get into the acquisition business and did close some companies...one steel company had a pension liability of over $40,000,000..the union literally stripped it clean. This information is available...just look it up. Romney is a very very acute and accomplished businessman, to paint him differently is just sickening...especially at a time when America needs him the most.

Obama's outsourcing with your tax dollars:

After receiving a $500 million stimulus loan guarantee, Fisker Automotive is producing their $100,000 luxury electric sports car in Finland. (“Car Company Gets U.S. Loan, Builds Cars in Finland,” ABC News, 10/20/11)
Nearly Half of President Obama’s $2.4 billion devoted to advanced vehicle batteries went to foreign companies in places like Russia, China, South Korea and France. (“Obama Sends Stimulus Aid to Foreign Firms,” Washington Times, 8/6/09)
Sempra Energy was awarded a $337-million loan guarantee to supply panels for a solar power plant in Arizona. However, the company purchased its solar panels from the Chinese solar giant Suntech. (“Sempra Gets $337 Million Guarantee for Arizona Solar Project,” Bloomberg News, 9/28/11)
Two South Korean companies – LG Chem and Dow Kokam – were given $303 million to produce car batteries in the U.S., but then brought in foreign workers. Local unions have criticized the company for filling jobs with foreign workers. (“Unions Say Foreign Workers Taking Stimulus Jobs,” CBS News, 4/13/12)
“An April 2010 study by the Energy Department found that 60 percent of the 40 largest wind farms then financed by the stimulus relied on foreign manufacturers for their central components, including turbines.” (“Obama’s Record on Outsourcing Draws Criticism from the Left,” The Washington Post, 7/9/12)
California-based Tezo Systems lost its bid for a ‘stimulus’-funded grant to install television monitors on California buses to a New Zealand company. (“Santa Clarita Rejects Protest, New Zealand Company Keeps Stimulus Contract,” NBC4 Los Angeles, 5/16/12)
A federal investigation found that “at least $7 million in federal stimulus money intended to provide jobs to unemployed Oregonians instead paid wages to 254 foreign workers.” (“Federal Stimulus Money for Oregon Jobs Hired Foreign Workers,” The Oregonian, 10/20/12)

Sandy has and will affect many more people in the days to come, that is without saying, having lived on the east coast Hurricanes are a normally accepted event.

Now what will really affect millions is the results of the elections for each and every race, for if the tax payers are not the winners then the country is the loser, and those that voted against the country are the just cause for the problem.

    October 31, 2012 at 2:46 pm |

The President's policies also affect millions:

Obama represents the audacity of hypocrisy:

He said he would close GITMO, but he didn't.
He said he would pass comprehensive immigration reform, but didn't.
He said he opposed executive privilege but used it on fast and furious.
He said he would be transparent, but the health care bill was debated in private.
He said he would not pursue the single payer option, but did.
He said the health care bill would reduce costs, but they increased.
He said it doesn’t make sense to increase taxes when the economy is bad, but he is doing it anyway.
He said he would cut the deficit in half, but didn't.
He blasted Bush for debt, but then increased it by $6 trillion.
He said he would unite the country, but divides it along income and race.
He said the stimulus would save the economy, but it didn't.
He blasts Romney for outsourcing, but the stimulus outsourced jobs.
He said green energy would work, but his investments have failed.
He said he would save the auto industry, but really only bailed out the unions.
He said his plan would reduce unemployment to 4%, but it is still nearly at 8%.
He opposes torture such as waterboarding, but he is willing to drone strike terrorists.
He bashed Bush for his foreign policy, but Obama can't get his story straight on Libya.
Obama says Romney lies, but Obama lied about FEMA not giving aid to New Orleans and much more.

Thanks for sharing Mittens. It is unfortunate that you couldn't have laid something out that sanely during debates with the constant lies. It's unfortunate that you couldn't stand not having your reglious belief system applied to how others lived. It's unforunate that ultimely you are about the rich and not the commoners. You might have had a chance at winning the white house. The GOP wanted a puppet...you should have just done what they told you. You tried to think and talk on your own...mistake
