Unemployment will definitely be going up this month, Obama will blame it on Sandy. The Republicans should give Obama all the tax increases he wants, then everyone see how it won't help the economy or the debt anyway. It'll make lefties feel good that they "got back at the rich" but that's it, everyone knows it won't put a dent in the debt or create any jobs.

The Dept. of Labor itself said Hurricane Sandy was the reason. Thousands upon thousands of jobs were lost due to the damages to business owners in New Jersey and in New York. There aren't jobs where a building used to be – duh.

There are several other companies not near NY shedding jobs this month but of course you won't mention them, it might ruin your narrative and interfere with your worship.

18,500 workers at Hostess just lost their jobs, because of union demands ... even the famous Hostess Twinkies have become extinct as a result. America's farmers and ranchers are about to take a huge hit, thanks to death tax being reestablished on January one. Food chains, and thousands of other businesses are about to lay off millions of employees, thanks to obamacare. Printing and dumping 40 Billion dollars a month into our economy is causing massive inflation. High gas prices are increasing the cost of everything for middle class Americans. Obama wants to raise taxes on everybody ... and our National debt has risen to over a Trillion a year. All of this is a result of your Dear Leader, Barack Obama's incredibly stupid policies ... and yet, you brain washed obama stooges continue to defend him.

Hostess has been under the control of a group of investment firms, including hedge funds Silver Point Capital and Monarch Alternative Capital. I wonder how much they'll make-off with this time? Let's keep track. I'll wager it's a ton of money and it's what they probably wanted to happen all along as they were strong-arming the employees into a contract that was hard to live with. The Teamsters barely went along but the Bakers Union couldn't stomach it. Hostess doesn't really seem to care at this point and would rather see 18,500 people out of work and just sell-off rather than negogiating something that benefits the company and it's employees both. But then, that's what happens when hedge-funds get involved – it's about their take and no one else's.

No Hostess is being bankrupted by venture capitalist who bought the company, just to profit from taking it apart and selling it off in pieces to the highest bidders. Nothing more ....nothing less.

Now that the middle Eastern countries want to deny the U.S. oil ... as a weapon ... we can question Obama's wisdom in banning the Keystone Pipeline, drilling in Anwr, and off shore. After all, when American commerce, and American drivers screech to a halt ... we can always turn to wind mills and solar panels for solace.

Howie... You are totally lost when it comes to this conversation. Take it from a 77 year old great-grandmother you are losing this conversation.

The price of gasoline is currently lower than the high of the Bush years... by a buck per gallon. The fuel standards for new automobiles are higher so we use less fuel. We now purchase most of our fossil fuels from the Americas (North, South and Central American). Plus, we are producing more of our own, and using more blends that include ethanol.

Since nether you or anyone else is stalled in line at a gas station waiting for a mid-east tanker of crude? Why should you be worrying about the Saudi's being able to sell their crude? I thought the whole idea was for us to be self-dependent and get off mid-east oil. Did you miss that conversation?

Besides the Keystone pipeline is not to bring oil to the United States, it is to transport the dirtiest of crude to the international tax-free zone at Port Arthur, Texas, where the Valero refineries can bypass U.S. taxes when it is sold on the world market to the highest bidder. At the most 6000 temporary jobs with a greater chance of messing up our water resources forever. No thanks.

And why are you still here? I thought you were moving to Canada.

The price of gasoline is currently lower than the high of the Bush years... by a buck per gallon

Correct Jean. However, this was only a temporary spike in the cost and lasted only two months. The current high prices have lasted the past three years. Which do you think puts a bigger overall drain on the pocketbook?

The fuel standards for new automobiles are higher so we use less fuel. Yet, these same fuel standards only work as long as people drive appropriately. Years ago, yes during the Bush years, the government added a new rule that required auto sales to reduce advertised mileage by 15 percent to accommodate for aggressive driving habits. Even today, most automobiles gain best mileage at 50 or 60 miles an hour. Anything over 60 reduces overall mileage significantly. This is supported by most qualified mechanics and the EPA. Yet, how many people drive 60. What I see is 70 to 80 with people racing from one red light to the next. Gasoline is a fossil fuel and it adds 60 percent of the carbon monoxide poison in our air.

Expectations are for the government to fix the problem. But people need to be a part of it. People are only concerned with energy waste and pollution as long as it is the coal industry or energy companies. We also need personal responsibility.

        November 19, 2012 at 11:16 am |
      • Cynthia L.

You are so right about the personal responsibility in how we drive. I wanted to add something to what you said about gas mileage.
During the Clinton years the national speed limit was lowered to 55 miles an hour. Lots of people still owned heavy, gas-guzzling cars. The more concerned customers listened to environmental reports and sick of our dependence on foreign oil with it's never-ending conflicts and costs started to buy smaller, lighter cars. Oh brother, did the oil companies ramp up their denial campaigns and the car companies followed suit with bigger and even more gas-guzzling SUVs.
Along comes G.W. Dubya and what happens when an oilman becomes president? He immediately raised the national speed limit to 65 to 75 mph. Not only that, you could get a tax break for buying gas-guzzling SUVs.
Well, la-de-da and whoop-tee do. People were happy to drive faster but still wanted to buy smaller – more economical cars. Uh-oh, guess Detroit thought we wanted flash and burn. Bigger is better? Cars that cost more than the down-payment on a house? What a bunch of dopes. And, guess what happened next under Bush's presidency?....Yup, Detroit went bankrupt.
Now, the American people were steaming mad at having to subsidize dumb with a baliout. But, alot of us saw the opportunity for our country's car companies to be world leaders in environmentally conscienous, money-saving automobiles. Something where we could have admirable leadership in an industry America created. Smarter people – smarter cars. Obama thought that was a good idea, too, and ran on that platform after reaching out to Detroit after the bailout to save the jobs of a zillion people and the industries that serve and service the contents of our cars. People agreed and voted him in.
Detroit and it's designers and the many workers have started to focus on smarter. The president asked them to meet another challenge – higher mileage per gallon cars to meet new national standards. Wow, the money saved by not going to the pump as often. Detroit actually making cars people want to buy.
Boy-oh-boy, are the oil companies hopping-around, pulling their hair out on that idea. And, wella, being an oilman's state, Texas decided they would try to buy hearts by squeezing in the fattest, big-boy pants they could find and THEY RAISED the speed limit to 85 mph on their highways......Do you see a pattern here, folks??

        November 19, 2012 at 1:47 pm |
      • Caramon

Actually Cynthia, the 55 MPH limit was established in 1974 as a response to gas shortages. I can even remember the day it went into effect. However, some states had modified speed limits including certain roads in California that reduced from 70 to a 65 limit. The National Highway Designation Act returned limits to the states. It was enacted in 1995. States like Texas and Montana changed back pretty quickly after that.

Kool-aid. If something causes a problem then it deserves the blame for the problem. Sandy has put people out of work. businesses are closed due to storm damage and power outages. So yes Sandy is responsible for some unemployment this month. I also blame summer for it being hot in phoenix in july.

Your side on the other hand do not blame the cause for the problem. You just blame all problems on Obama because you don't like him even when he had no part in causing the problems you blame him for

Huge numbers of current doctors say they will have to retire early, due to the problems and expenses obama scare presents. Hospitals are already closing, in response to obama scare ... Many doctors are already refusing to provide service to medicare patients, due to Obama scare ... prescriptions are getting more expensive, harder to get, and taking longer to get, due to obama scare ... the quality of care, and the waiting period for treatment is taking longer , and declining, due to obama scare ... and these poxes on the American tax payers, don't even begin to include all the pork, and unknown billions of wasted tax dollars, which were snuck into the obama scare bill ... you know, the one that 64% of the American people said they didn't want ... and the bill that Nancy Piglosi told us to pass, in order to see what was in it !!!

        November 16, 2012 at 11:58 am |
    • Caramon

No Cynthia. But the vote of the people included keeping Republicans in control of the House. Our system of government was set up in order to prevent one branch of government from gaining complete control. It is called the check and balance system. The purpose of our Constitution was to limit the government. Some of the original 13 states would not vote in favor of the Constitution until the agreed upon Bill of Rights were added to further limit the federal government. This would specifically include states like New York and Virginia. If the President is concerned about the welfare of the 100 percent this would need to include all those that voted against him including the Republicans.

      November 16, 2012 at 12:55 pm |
    • Caramon

Unfortunately Cynthia, I had a great response. You will likely never see it since it is under moderation. The point is that we have 3 equal branches of government. Neither is in charge. The public voted Republicans in control of the House in 2010 and kept them in control in 2012. The voters do not want total control they want some balance. The President is supposed to represent the 100 percent so I am told. If this is true, then he need also represent those that voted against him, 49 percent. If this is not true, would you be saying the President lied?

      November 16, 2012 at 1:01 pm |
      • Cynthia L.

Caramon, I do not believe one party should have control and I have NEVER avocated that.
The Republican Rove style re-districting was put in place so Republicans couldn't be defeated by the votes of the people. Well, looks like it didn't work as people are tired of that and if Republicans can't be elected unless they suppress the votes of the people then either the Republican party itself will go back to what it was and actually govern fairly with integrity or another Independent party will be taking it's place. I predict it will NOT BE THE TEA PARTY. As long as mainstream Republicans put up with their style of 'dictatorship' government, Republicans are toast with the majority of voters who WILL TURN OUT IN TWO YEARS to make sure they get the boot.
I am an Independent voter for a reason. The one party I see as trying to govern fairly, is the Democrats. I have more things in common with them right now. I will always fight against voter suppression and hope that the Supreme Court overturns the travesty that is Citizens United. I do not think any party is perfect but the Republican party for me is totally off the wall and until they become more concerned about the majority of the citizens of this country instead of power for power's sake, I ain't votin' for 'em. I know you are a possibly a Republican, Caramon, I don't have a problem with that. I have a problem with the likes of the thinking of those like HOWARD, K-P police et. al because they are a symbol of everything I can't tolerate – hateful discourse day after day, after day by the worst kind of dummies.

When President Bill Clinton signed off on the North American Free Trade Agreement and the General Agreement on Trade & Tariffs in 1993, otherwise known as NAFTA/GATT, he quite literally slashed the economic throat of the United States. We've been hemorrhaging jobs to foreign nations like Communist China ever since. William Jefferson Clinton should be tried for Crimes against the United States of America for Selling the Future of our children for quick gain. The transfer of wealth to China has built their Economy and wealth and left US bankrupt for years to come. Soon American will die by China's Military complex and this will go down as the biggest sell out of a Nation in History.

This is where the Cold Hard Facts show up. Will Obama follow the path of the Baker's Union at Hostess or will he follow the Path of the Teamster's Union. With Obama Care looming overhead it makes little difference if get's his way. The Jobs are already starting to dissiapper or shrink from the fallout. It is so amazing to me of how so many people ignored the looming disaster now here in full force.

A lawsuit filed in federal court on Wednesday alleges mass favoritism in the Department of Energy’s decisions to award federal grants to major car companies to develop electric vehicles, according to a legal complaint obtained by Scribe.
The plaintiff, San Francisco-based XP Technology, says in a complaint filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims that “corruption and negligence” pervaded DOE’s decision to award loan guarantees to Ford, Nissan, Tesla Motors, and Fisker Automotive for the development of electric vehicle technology.
“Investigations have shown that DOE officials intentionally stalled numerous applicants’ reviews in order to force them out of business and protect favored players,” the complaint claims.

It does matter donkey. They are thinking of holding everybody hostage who makes under $250,000 so the rich can get tax breaks. It's plan and simple. You have to be a moran not to see or understand that. I know your not making over $250,000 a year so why are you cool with that? Why do you want someone to hold that over your head so the rich can get some tax breaks. I just don't understand people like you. It makes be think your just not educated enough to understand or maybe your mom dropped you on your head. If you don't make more than $250,000 a year you don't have any business voting for anything the repubs are doing. Go kick some rocks and think about what I just said. Also don't get it twisted. If we were face to face you wouldn't be calling me names. I would be taking your lunch money and you can believe that partner.

Pelosi is the iconic image for what is wrong with the Democrats. She is on crack and yet she runs their party. The person before Harry Reid to run their party in the Senate was a former KKK member and yet they call Republicans racist.

@eng, i happen to own a bus. and im going to have to shut it down ad get rid of my 19 employees , this truly sucks. this is the only reason i wanted romney in office, i truly hope the inept one wises up,,, i have plenty, i am not worried about my self, ive done very well, however my employees and thier childeren will suffer do to this admin, so yes i do take it personel, but more for the future than me and yes i did hit lotto with my sis.

    • Cynthia L.

So, be honest here, rosco. You and your sib won a large lotto and you don't have to work anymore. But, as you say you own a bus and have 19 employees, and have done well for yourself, are you really just using Obama's election as an excuse to sack your employees instead of the real reason that you just don't want to work anymore? That's kinda what it sounds like. So nice of you to 'worry about them'. I don't think they'll believe a thing you say at this point.

Rosco you dont own a bus. You can't even spell bus. Your just like I said IGNORANT. Look at all the missed spelled words in your post. You are just what I thought you are a Hill Billy. You probally don't even have a high school diploma.
I'm with Cynthia and I wouldn't believe a thing you said. Like I said before donkey. Your the reason I will not be voting for the repubs for a long time. There voting base is to dumb to see when someone is trying to help you. They can't get over Race, Gender, Religion, and many other issues to help better this country. Do me a favor. "Obambi-poo poo just left me and is licking his lips - his knees sore," according to Boston Hot Lips Deval Patrick. Republicans control the House. Poo Poo won nothing. His obamacare is now on the table to be cut. We are going to keep cutting until budget is balanced. $120 billion deficit so far for Fiscal Year 2013. No more taxing, bad for small business. We cannot afford obamacare. Get it over it, blue turds.

More money is spent for Halloween, Black Friday, and Christmas at this time of year, and yet you argue about jobs, jobs, and jobs. All this seems to be about is selling off all the useless cheap crap and cutting jobs so the year-end books will show a move to the profit side of the ledger. Manufacturing jobs were shipped overseas, and now service jobs are being eliminated, but this is all balanced by higher consumer debts to keep the country afloat. Forget about the statistics and create some manufacturing, service and government jobs of quality and not quantity. The base has been eroded and must be re-established.

To make it fair and balanced, the republicans should allow revenue increases but the democrats should have the tax cuts take affect in years 1-4 of the budget. History has already proven the demicrats lie about spending cuts when you put them in years 7-10 of the budget for a tax increase. All the cuts need to be done while the President is in office or their should be no agreement and all the tax cuts should expire and mandatory spending cuts made, since that is the only way the deficit increases will not be as high because the last 4 years prove the President does not know a real spending cut, even if it hits him in the head.

The Bush Tax Cuts for the Wealthy had an expiration date. Long past. Now, Republicans are saying that to let them expire is a tax hike. Voters didn't buy that little language switch-a-roo.
The most reliable, non-partisan judge is the Congressional Budget Office who states that the Affordable Care Act doesn't add to the debt – it LOWERS THE DEBT.
The Supreme Court found the Affordable Care Act to be Constitutional AND made the law $84 BILLION CHEAPER when it ruled that states don't have to accept the law's 'Medicaid Expansion'.
EXIT POLLS showed that ony 25% of voters wanted it to be repealed.
The recent study from the Congressional Research Service finds NO SUPPORTING PROOF that cutting taxes on the wealthy leads to higher economic growth.-–What did Republicans do about that? THEY SUPPRESSED THE REPORT.
When Obama offered a dollar cut for a dollar in revenue the Republicans said no. Who is serious here?

It's sad that the Republicans take directions from Norquist, an tax activists that does NOT have this nation and people in his best interest. He doesn't care about the health of our economy, since he lives on donated funds. We and the politicians need to push back on him so we can get this nation back to work and the economy healthy again. Norquist is a traitor to us.
