Obama stays behind-the-scenes as fiscal talks continue As the window for a potential deal on the fiscal cliff begins to close, President Obama remains behind closed doors for the majority of Thursday. We can only expect behind-the-scenes maneuvers surrounding a possible agreement with congressional Republicans if Washington still hopes to salvage a Christmas vacation, not to mention avert the dire consequences that all agree would result if a deal is not reached. Meanwhile, the president is buoyed by new poll numbers from the Wall Street Journal/NBC News showing two-thirds of Americans was a compromise reached that includes both tax increases and tax cuts. The president's only on-camera appearance Thursday will come this evening when he makes remarks at a Hanukkah reception. Full schedule:

Nam Vet – Perhaps you haven't heard, but Obama is the first POTUS to show Nam vets the respect of saying, "Welcome home." He and the 1st Lady have also worked tirelessly to provide better medical and employment opportunities for all vets. Obama fought for a Vet jobs bill, which would have assisted veterans with adapting to civilian life and finding employment, but the Republicans blocked it in Congress.
Considering what he has been doing for veterans and the fact that he IS OUR COMMANDER IN CHIEF, don't you think he deserves a little more respect? Just saying.
BTW, thank you for the service you have done for this country. I'm sure that you had little to do with creating the Nam war, but you did your duty.

As the president of this country he is entitled to the respect that he earbs while in office. The title does not grant him any special priveledge... An example is the tax on the wealthy (which by the way includes small business owners that file taxes as individuals and not companies for the most part) In large this stance is designed to get the American people behind his position... this is why he is still campaigning... but when you breakit down... that will supply enought money to un the government say 2 weeks at most? NOW how can that fix the"CLIFF" What it does accomplish is it inhibits those small business owners that file taxes to stop considering expansion... no job creation...that does what for the economy??? or Job Growth? There are always consequences ..... we will see what they are

Why "behind the scenes"? We need strong leadership from the President right now. Get all of the leaders into a room and say "we're not coming out until we negotiate a compromise". That's real leadership. Plain and simple. I don't think Mr. President has the negotiating skills and experience we need. If he did, this would already be over with and both sides would have some things they won and some things they lost. And don't blame this on anyone else . . . he is the President.

Menards has cancelled plans to open at least 2 new stores... medical device makers are laying off and closing plants to shore up for the device tax, Citigroup is elininating 11k jobs....
And this president is campaigning with the peoplw when he should be leading the government... He is standing ROCK firm on getting the BIG GUYS to pay their share while the economy goes in the dumper. He wants Corprations and business to foot the bill after all they can afford it.... but in reality can you??? They will pass those costs on to the consumer as a raise in the cost of doing business, the owner of Denny's has already stated as much. Olive Garden and Texas Long Horn holding companies have state that they intend to move the full time staff to mostly partime so that they do not have to offer health care.... Imagine that ... Part time and now you have to pay for your own or be fined by the government???? Shocking.... Just Shocking ... but then what did you expect??
Aetna will double its premiums and Blue Shield of Cali will increase by 20% next year....
All of those taxes you garner from corporations will come from your pockets as the cost of doing business goes up with each and every taxi increase.... Since this is the case I have to believe that your entire purose in life is to be a troll... and you certainly succeed on that point. FACT since our current president came to office and his signature legislation was passed my he\alth care costs have doubled each year whee as before that it was around 8%. I have now lost the ability to use flexible spending on BAU type meds that aid in preserving my health.

That fee is real and is gonna be inforce after the first of the year... WHY should I as a medical device user have to pay that tax? This happened because as Nancy Pelosi once said "We have to pass the bill before we know what's in it". No one read this bill. It is full of so many taxes, and according to the Supreme Court they are taxes, even staunch supporters know this will hurt their constituents- one of them being my own senator.
