POTUS day ahead: another day away from camerasAfter returning late last night from Newtown, CT where he gave an emotional speech to the community at a memorial service, President Obama spends his Monday away from the sight of cameras. Of course, there are many issues on his plate that will most likely be discussed in closed-door briefings and meetings. Over the weekend, there was some movement in the negotiations over the fiscal cliff when Speaker Boehner put forth an offer that would allow income tax rates for wealthy Americans to increase in exchange for spending cuts, tax reform and entitlement reform. We'll see what the next step is when White House Press Secretary Jay Carney briefs reporters this afternoon at 12:30p. I don't know much about the politics of the President with respect to the shootings in Connecticut. But I remember the painful look on the face of George Bush when he comforted the families after the World Trade Center. I do not believe that anyone with a beating heart could look on the death of these innocent children without a great deal of sorrow. As a parent, it had to be difficult for the President when he talked about the shooting and was there at the service.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PRESIDENT GET CRITICIZED FOR JUST ABOUT ANYTHING. A LOT OF PEOPLE DISLIKED BUSH BUT WE WERE ALL BEHIND HIM WHEN HE HAD TO BEAR SOMETHING LIKE THIS, TO CONSOLE AMERICANS AT TIMES LIKE THIS. IT IS SIMPLY INCREDIBLE THAT OBAMA GETS THIS KIND OF HATRED WHEN HE HAD TO DO HIS DUTY.
IT IS A SHAME. HE MADE A HEARTFELT SPEECH. HE SAID THINGS WE ARE ALREADY THINKING AND FEELING AND TO ACCUSE HIM OF FAILURE OF LEADERSHIP DID NOT HEAR THE SAME THINGS I HEARD FROM OBAMA YESTERDAY. THIS SHOULD NOT EVEN BE ABOUT HIM BUT ABOUT US AS A SOCIETY. IF WE CANNOT EVEN GET PAST OUR DISLIKE OF OUR PRESIDENT TO UNDERSTAND THE BIGGER ISSUE THEN WE ARE LOST AS A COUNTRY.
Well, you know me. I have my disagreements with the President. But, not this time. I am certain all the families appreciated his being at the service. I am also certain he was thinking about his own kids when he gave the speech. I do not doubt for a minute his sincerity.
I KNOW CARAMON BECAUSE YOU ARE A REASONABLE PERSON, FAR MORE THAN ME IT SEEMS.
I AM GOING TO STOP ARGUING NOW FOR ALL OUR SAKES. WE NEED TO START THINKING MORE DEEPLY ABOUT THIS AND PEOPLE NEED TO BE MORE POSITIVE TO GET OVER THEIR GRIEF. THAT'S WHAT I HAD TO GO THROUGH DURING 9/11 WHEN I ESCAPED HARM WHEN 2 WTC FELL, KNOWING SO MANY OTHERS DID NOT. I WISH THE PEOPLE OF NEWTOWN WELL AND I HOPE THEY CAN RECOVER FROM THIS TRAGEDY.
I can understand people not agreeing with the president on policy....but just to be disagreeable for the sake of being disagreeable...and it is no secret where they are coming from which is totally disgusting. I make no secret of the fact i think George W. Bush was the worst president since Ronald Reagan (the president we can blame for the state of mental health in this country), but I didn't accuse either of not caring about how they treated people in instances like this. The president was doing his job like presidents before him. Everyone who is normal feels this tragedy very deeply.
