Obama to Asheville , NC post State of the Union travel Last night President Obama delivered his State of the Union address in front of the 113th congress. In his speech he called for the expansion of pre-school education for every 4-year-old, an increase in the minimum wage and a plan to create 15 "manufacturing institutes". He reiterated his call for a program to repair the infrastructure of the nation's roads and bridges. On the foreign policy front he announced 33,000 U.S. troops would be withdrawn from Afghanistan by this time next year. That should be 'Asheville', with an e in the middle, and 'its', with no apostrophe.

The CBO estimate is that the long term cost for the Iraq war which started in 2003 will amount to $1.9 Trillion dollar by 2017...the cost for the Iraq and Afghan wars combined will total by 2017 at $2.4 trillion.An economist for the World Bank puts the figure higherdue to the fact the money for these wars is borrowed and interest on debt can fluctuate. He puts the cost at the most modest number at $3. trillion by 2017. Those figures only represent the cost to the United States...it does not represent the cost to other countries, or to the people in the countries of those wars.

So, he wants to go to NC and boast about a foreign company choosing to do buisness here. That is fine, except that he is out to put numerous American manufacturers out of buisness in this state –
Para Ordinance, IO, Tactical Arm, and BUSHMASTER are among the dozens of gun makers in NC – many of whom specialize in AR and AK type arms (since they are the best selling firearms in the country).
Of course, the President loves picking which industry's win and loose, and doesn't care if they are American or not. After all, wasn't the auto bailout about saving GMs American jobs instead of that buisness going to Toyata or Honda in Alabama or South Carolina?
Oh I am right there with you, playing the smallest violin for these gun manufacturers. They have made record profits and have flooded the markets with their guns. I'm not worried about their welfare. They will find a way to make deadly weapons still. Maybe they can design a deadlier butter knife.

You are making so really specious arguments about me and then Obama. You claim Obama is for illegal immigrants? How come he deported more illegal immigrants at a rate faster than his predecessor? I don't support illegals but I am also a realist, like some Republicans about the situation. Amnesty will happen in some shape or form, whether you like it or not. We need the tax money so we can pay for more border security.

Name one instance, one conversation we had here where I said anything about Occupy much less support them. Go ahead, make my day. You have the burden of proof here because you like to talk about them for some odd reason. For that matter, why don't you post any instance where Obama and his administration supported Occupy. I'll save you the trouble, they never did and the Occupy movement hated them for it. The Occupy movement had a point about the lack of responsibility in Wall Street but they were incoherent and were eventually just relegated as a nuisance. So don't act so shocked when people from the right and left rejected them. I for one had no opinion of them because I ignore fads.
Amnesty for illegals will happen. There is bipartisan support for it and it will happen. This is only part of the greater, and comprehensive reform of our immigration policies. Take it from someone who legally immigrated to this country, waiting many years for that green card, I do not like illegals but we have to do something about those who are already here and contributing to the economy. We also have to do the humane thing about the children who were brought here illegally through no fault of their own and give them the pathway to citizenship of the only country they know. We should also secure our borders and punish those who hire and exploit illegals, something the Reagan administration failed to do after enacting amnesties.
Let me know if you have any more questions about my actual opinions on these rather irrelevant topics before making them for me, kay?

I suppose it takes an immigrant to understand other immigrants, whether they are here legally or not. I do not like them for taking the easier way in, but I understand they came here probably for the same reasons. Am I angry at them for it? Sure, but I see reality as it is. Because America put people on the moon, we should be able to resolve our immigration problem in a comprehensive manner, secure our borders, punish those who hire and exploit illegal immigrants, and provide a pathway to citizenship those who are deserving among them. We are already deporting more illegals now than ever before but that hasn't solved anything. Reagan failed to commit to a comprehensive approach which is why he failed.

Pre school for 4 year olds is not necessary and is a waste of taxpayer money. Even kindergarten is not necessary. A child who completes pre school (and then kindergarten), is no more intellegent, versed or capable at the end of first grade than the child who only started school in first grade.
Seriously CNN you can't spell the name of the town correctly? Forget all the issues people, be upset that a major news organization is so eager to just pump out stories that no one could thinkk to put the letter E in for the propper spelling of Asheville, NC. And you wonder why we hear so many changing stories on major issues and events. If no one is taking an extra 5 seconds to double check even spelling, what makes you think they are taking the time to check facts.

The majority of American people wish President Obama well. It is so sad that the majority in the old Confederacy still have not gotten aboard the progressive bandwagon and want a reactionary world. Haven't the Republicans seen the movie Pleasantville. The 1950s are over. The demographics of the country have changed forever. Blacks are 14 percent of the vote, Gays are 6 percent of the national vote and just guess what the Hispanic vote count is roughly 16 percent. Republicans the world is getting smaller.
you should study real history. The south were all for freeing the slaves on a systematic basis as was done in europe without war. Lincoln mistreated the south and he was an extremely successful attorney advance by the robber barons (railroaders and etc.) and advanced their agenda and their agenda was to tax and exploit the south for monetary gain. Lincoln and his wealthy supporters cost this country over 600,000 lives...horrible. But then 'john the historian' you need to learn to read to know all of this.
