Obama’s vacation forecast: Cloudy with a lot of uncertainty

Washington (CNN) – The rest of the First Family is in Hawaii for the Christmas holiday but President Obama remains at the White House still trying to wrap up a very elusive present, a payroll tax extension and unemployment insurance.

Will he stay or will he go? Not even the president’s top aides know, or at least they aren’t saying.

“I’m reluctant to say where he’s going to be on which day because I don’t want to make this about him,” said White House spokesman Jay Carney when asked where the president would be on Christmas morning. “It is a very fluid situation.”

Obama's national security holiday briefing

Ahead of the holiday’s President Obama received a national security briefing to get the latest on preparations for any eventuality.

NSC spokesmanTommy Vietorprovided the below on the record statement:

“This afternoon, the President met with his senior national security team to ensure they are doing everything possible to enhance preparedness across the government in advance of the holiday season.  The President was briefed on the latest intelligence and discussed the measures being taken to continue to keep the American people safe. The President directed his team to maintain a high level of vigilance heading into the new year.”
