Michelle Obama pumps it up![]() Dressed in full workout clothing and charged up for her “Let’s Move” Initiative, Michelle Obama got her run on today. The outfit revealed her athleticism – then she proved it by participating in blood-pumping activities with the energetic children of the Police Athletic League in Harlem. “I’m ready to move!” she shouted and move she did. Push ups, hoola hoops, even sprinting. Yet she never appeared to break a sweat. She meant it when she challenged everyone to “turn off the TV and video games.” Her enthusiasm had me at hello. So I put on my spandex and ran out there myself. Oh man, not again. BRADLEY!! Wake up! Sorry about the daydream. I’m guess I'm just dying to tone up my abs. Michelle Obama tells press: “Let’s Move!”![]() The First Lady not only called on children to eat healthy and be active, she pointed directly at the press and said, “You should be able to climb a six foot wall too!” Uh oh. Does it count that we could – once – way back in high school? When Mrs. Obama told children in Harlem that they needed to be active “60 minutes everyday,” and it could be “just playing tag with your friends,” I thought, well, those of us in the press do that –chasing her across town! The big relief came when she blurted out “no one expects you to do push-ups for an hour.” Phew! Yet the final shot to the heart was when she shouted, “put down the potato chips and candy.” Instead we picked up our cameras and notepads and headed back to the office. Didn’t want to miss the going away party in my department: CUPCAKES!!!! The travails of a cub reporter![]() First Lady Michelle Obama met with dozens of elated children, all members of the Police Athletic League of Harlem. Unfortunately one child wasn’t so lucky. A member of the press, he was kept behind the barricades and told Mrs. Obama would not take questions. You see, Sahil Abbi is an eleven-year-old reporter for Time Magazine. Huh? Well, he wears glasses. He dresses in a suit. He has interviewed Tony DiTerlizzi (The Spiderwick Chronicles), Big Time Rush Band (on Nickelodeon) and worked the red carpet at the Harry Potter Premiere. As a finalist in a journalism competition, this mini-adult is now sent out on assignments for Time. Ok not that TIME magazine, but TIME for Kids, and today’s assignment: interview the First Lady. Though he never got that one-on-one, I asked Sahil what he would have asked her. His questions: What does she do to encourage her family to make healthy choices and be active? What is her favorite healthy kid friendly snack? Sorry I couldn’t help you kid, but maybe Michelle Obama will read CNN.com’s “The 1600 Report” and be willing to answer your queries. The audacity of hope! |
